[Student Work] Bittersweet - Skullgirls fan animation

I wanted to see what it was like to animate a 2D fighting game move from start to finish, specifically using Skullgirls as an example because of their hand-drawn style. A lot of time was taken to study and reference the animation artwork in the game itself, and I am very thankful for their lead animator's talk on GDC.
Character is an original design, I liked the lollipop axe concept so I wanted to do something with it, which is why I chose her for this project. The 'Player Speed (Fast)' attack variation was added to better fulfill the requirements of the assignment.

All animation seen (aside from the spliced gameplay footage) is original, animated in Adobe Animate. Video is edited in After Effects.
Sounds, title image, background image and gameplay footage are all from Skullgirls. (The camera animation in the gameplay footage was also from the game itself.)
